From Behind the Lens
Travel: Colorado – Steamboat Springs
May 22, 2026

I recently headed out to Colorado with my brother and a great group of guys for a quick fly fishing and photography getaway. Coming from the flat landscapes of the Midwest, experiencing the Rocky Mountains during the spring thaw was an incredible change of scenery. It did snow almost everyday we were there.

We spent our first day floating the Yampa River, followed by a second day spent wading a smaller, secluded stream on a private ranch. I kept my cameras busy, shooting mostly digital to capture the fast action on the water, but also burning through three rolls of film to capture the slower, richer textures of the landscape and our time together. It was a fast-paced trip, but the fishing, the terrain, and the camaraderie didn’t disappoint.
